Automatic Savings: Trimming Your Monthly Bills and The Monthly Saving Calculator

Calculator.kodabarThis week, I got excited about a project for The New York Budget that I have been working on. That’s why I am posting two days early (don’t worry – this is a bonus post and I will have my regular Friday post as well).

Introducing The Monthly Savings Calculator!

Looking at your recurring monthly bills is such an important first step to saving more money. If you can shave $10 off your cell phone bill, you are saving $10 this month, $10 next month, and $10 for every month going forward. That adds up quick! How quick? Well, try out the calculator to find out.

Some of the prices I use in the calculator are specific to New York City. However, the savings techniques and the staggering amount of money you can save applies everywhere! And more often than not, you will be able to save even more money in other cities.

Lastly, before you go play with this new calculator toy, I wanted to ask your help. This is the first time I have ever coded anything besides practice programs in javascript. Please let me know if there are any issues. If there is a bug or if you disagree with the math behind the calculator, let me know. If you know any ways to get the monthly bills even lower, let me know. And if you have any additional monthly costs that you want me to add, let me know!

Thanks so much and enjoy!
